Many people label Pharmacists as simply “pill counters” and "Medicine dispensers". However, this could not be further from the truth! Most pharmaceutical teams consist of a large variety of people who have a large range of degrees and knowledge. A pharmaceutical team comprises many different roles like pharmacy technicians, clinical pharmacists, and clinical pharmacy practitioners.
Pharmacy Technicians hold a key role in upholding a pharmaceutical team. Pharmacy Technicians help licensed pharmacists prepare and dispense prescriptions, manage day to day operations in a pharmaceutical store or hospital, and support patient care! Some daily tasks consist of filling prescriptions, customer service, administrative work, and inventory control.
Clinical Pharmacists are usually found in a more clinical setting, usually consisting of outpatient clinics and doctor’s offices. When compared to a Pharmacy Technician, their work consists of more in-person interactions with patients. Clinical Pharmacists oversee long-term care for older patients and review insurance protocols. Due to this, they specialize in an area and perform medication management.
Clinical Pharmacy Practitioners move under a focused practice and have authority within it. Having a Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner in a clinic enhances the clinic's access to people and ensures Veterans can meet their health goals.
Pharmaceutical care teams specialize in so many things! Without them, society might even fall apart!
Why Do People Call Pharmacy the Most Accessible Industry in the Health Field?
The pharmaceutical industry is often called the most “accessible” community industry due to the no-appointment walk-ins, the widespread reachability of your average pharmacy, and Pharmacies are the best way to get legal medication quickly for your average person.
Most Americans visit their community pharmacies almost twice as much when compared to their physicians or other healthcare professionals. A large majority of Americans even live within six miles of a community pharmacy, allowing them to visit them for day to day necessities! Overall, in the past year, the Pharmacy Industry has increased by around 6%, which is equivalent to 1.75 trillion dollars! At the end of the day, pharmacy is truly an important part of healthcare. Without pharmacies, we won’t be in the most “amazing” place!
